This 3-day mountain adventure combines the ascent of Jebel Toubkal (4,167m), the highest peak in North Africa, with the impressive summit of Ouanoukrim (Timesguida 4,089m). Starting from Imlil (1,740m
Your adventure begins in Imlil (1,740m), the gateway to the High Atlas Mountains. After meeting your local mountain guide, you start trekking through the beautiful Mizane Valley, passing traditional Berber villages and walnut groves. The trail gradually ascends toward the sacred site of Sidi Chamharouch (2,350m), a popular pilgrimage spot where you stop for tea or a short rest.
From here, the path becomes steeper and more mountainous as you continue toward the refuge area at 3,200m. This section takes steady effort but offers impressive views of surrounding peaks. After 5–6 hours of trekking, you arrive at the refuge near Jebel Toubkal. Dinner and overnight stay at the mountain refuge prepare you for the summit days ahead.
An early wake-up (around 5:00 AM) allows you to start the summit ascent at dawn. The climb to the top of Jebel Toubkal takes approximately 3–4 hours, following a zigzag trail up steep rocky slopes. In winter, crampons and ice axe may be required depending on snow conditions.
Reaching the summit at 4,167m, the highest point in North Africa, rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views over the High Atlas Mountains and, on clear days, the Sahara Desert. After celebrating and taking photos at the iconic metal pyramid, you descend carefully back to the refuge (about 2–3 hours). The afternoon is for rest, recovery, and preparation for the next peak. Overnight at the refuge.
After breakfast, you leave the refuge for another exciting summit: Ouanoukrim, often climbed via its highest point, Timesguida (4,089m). The route follows a steep scree and rocky path offering spectacular views over the Toubkal massif. The ascent takes around 3 hours from the refuge.
From the summit, you enjoy a different perspective of Jebel Toubkal and the surrounding High Atlas range. After a short break at the top, you descend back to the refuge for lunch before continuing the long descent through Sidi Chamharouch and the Mizane Valley to Imlil (4–5 hours). Arrival in Imlil marks the end of a challenging and rewarding three-day mountaineering adventure.
